Fuel consumption represents a significant operating cost in the
use of a vehicle, for both personal and professional
applications. Given the high variability of fuel consumption
caused by the driving style, traffic conditions, road
conditions, weather and other factors, drivers’ choices and
practices can reduce this cost. ConsAPI has an objective: allow
users to identify the best route not only on the basis of the
estimated travel time but on the basis of different combinations
of travel time and travel costs (i.e. “generalized” travel
costs).
Users have different options to weigh in a different
way the two cost components elements of the generalized travel
costs in order to tailor the application to their specific needs
of the customer.
ConsAPI can also
deal with the travelling salesman problem where multiple origins
and destinations are present. In this light the tool is
particularly suitable for fleet operators with the objective to
minimize the operating costs while at the same time respecting
the existing time constraints.
